Simple Beauty Routine That is Easy To Follow & Effective

My first post on 2021!

There are many topics I want to share on my blog, but first is all about beauty.

After searching the true holy grail skincare products for my skin, finally I found the ones. Sometimes I wonder to see beauty influencer that promotes beauty products claiming that it works for them when it just recently launched. Well, I mean, don’t you think that it takes time to tell a product really works for you?

But in the end, it’s just business for them. Because it’s where they got the money for living. Influencing people to buy products they don’t even truly try or use it daily.

Before you read further, I want you to know that I have a normal skin with no acne (thanks to plant-based food diet!). And I only ever do facial treatment once in a lifetime. Because I don’t want to bother myself going out just for fancy skin treatment on my twenties. Well, maybe I would take facial treatment someday in my forties or fifties. Just not now.

I have two options for skin care routine: essential and optional. Essential skin care routine means that I always use it everyday. Optional means I use it sometimes once or thrice a week. When I’m too tired, I would skip the optional and only use the essentials.

Essential Skin Routine

Cleanser

I start my day with cleaning my face with facial cleanser from Sensatia Botanicals. I love their products so much. It’s affordable, free from any toxic and you can return the bottles to their store. I currently use Green Tea & Tamarind Facial Cleanser (Rp139.000). What I love about this cleanser it that it leaves my skin clean without sucking up moistures in my skin.

Serum

YOU CAN BUDGET ANY OTHER BEAUTY PRODUCTS EXCEPT SERUM. This is true. You have to spend a lot of money for serum. Serum, not oil. Oil is not serum. I use Alpha-H Vitamin C Serum (Rp787.000) twice a day. It absorbs easily to my skin and my face instantly oil free.

Eye Cream

This is a MUST if you don’t want any wrinkles when you’re old. Well, wrinkles are natural. But eye cream helps you to slow the aging process of your skin around the eyes. So, if you think that you need eye cream when the wrinkles are already there, then you’re wrong. My regret is that I don’t use eye cream since I was a teenager. I use Sensatia Botanicals Kakadu Plum & Argan Botanical Eye Serum (Rp180.000) twice a day. I also love Sukin Eye Serum, it’s also affordable and the result is amazing for me!

Moisturizer

You don’t need to splurge a lot of money for moisturizer. Forget about expensive La Mer moisturizer. You can budget your moisturizer and that’s totally fine. I use Southern Isles moisturizer everyday, it’s a gift from New Zealand. But I’m not sure it’s vegan because it contains lanolin. Lanolin is sourced from wool-bearing animals. Well, it’s better to use it than throw it away for nothing. You can also use oil as a moisturizer. And my favorite oil for moisturizing is rosehip oil.

Sunscreen

Is it cloudy? No sun? Wear your sunscreen. Sunscreen is the ultimate key to slow the aging process. Even if you’re at home, you need to wear your sunscreen. Most people don’t know the dangerous of sun exposure. Sun light is great for plants but not for your skin. Try to avoid sun exposure by using hat, and also sunscreen.

I use Supergoop! Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 (Rp525.000) and I love it so much. I have repurchase this product many times because it’s super light-weight, non-greasy and absorbs easily. If you want to try this product, I recommend you to buy the small size because you can use it for a quite long time.

Optional Skincare Routine

There are many many many beauty products out there. But when it comes for me to buy skincare products, I have standards to buy skincare products. It should be: cruelty-free, toxic free, and sustainable. There are many brands claiming their products are eco-friendly and toxic free but you need to dig more about those products. Because it could be greenwashing! And so far, my favorite skin care products are Sensatia Botanicals (it’s made in Indonesia!) and Alpha-H (Australian brand).

Every week, I have optional skincare routine. Sometimes I forget that I actually have those products. If I’m too tired to use skincare, I stick to the essential routine only. And these are my additional beauty products that I usually use it weekly or few times a week.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold Ultimate Perfecting Mask

Since I’m at the end of my twenties, I begin to use beauty products for mature skin. But I don’t like bothering myself to go to dermatologist for a fancy facial, I mean, can I just get the perfect skin from home? So I choose Alpha-H Liquid Gold Ultimate Perfecting Mask (Rp829.000), and I use it once a week.

This product may cause tingling sensation and you cannot let it sit for more than 10 minutes on your skin. it’s pricey but I think it’s totally worth it. I can feel the difference on my skin after using it.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold

Still from Alpha-H. This Liquid Gold (Rp673.000) is my HOLY GRAIL. Seriously, this product is that good. I only use this 3-4 times a week and it’s amazing. I use this every night and when I woke up I have this “I WOKE UP LIKE THIS” moment. So glowing and beautiful, my skin but better. Don’t forget to use sunscreen daily if you use this product. I purchased this product for more than a year ago, and I’m still not running out until today. So, yeah, it’s totally worth it.

The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Sleeping Mask

I wonder why this product is long lasting. I feel like I’ve been diligently using this once a week, and it’s still there. The Body Shop itself doesn’t sell this anymore but I still have it. I use this once a week at night. I love the texture of this mask, smooth and watery. Sometimes, when I’m too tired to use any skincare, I only use this at night.

Foreo Luna Play Plus

Before I have Foreo, I have never use any tools for my skin. But I’m just curious with Foreo, so I tried to purchase the smallest version of this, Foreo Luna Play Plus (Rp875.000). I don’t want to buy the regular size, because I’m afraid it won’t work for me. And it works wonderfully for my skin. Basically, this device works to deep cleanse your skin. Every after using this Foreo, my skin feels so soft. I was surprised how powerful the small Foreo works. But I still don’t want to spend more money for bigger Foreo because it’s enough for me to have Foreo LUNA Play Plus. I don’t use it everyday. I use it when I feel my skin needs a deep cleansing like after workout.

I wish there will be more local brands that is organic or sustainable. Because I feel guilty when I use product from brands that is not locally made. It costs a lot of carbon to get to Indonesia.

If you have any comments or thoughts about my skincare routine please do let me know! A tip from me to save some money on skincare: always buy them when on sale! I love seasonal Sephora discount. They give discount for 20%!
